Dear Parents,
This year, on the last Friday of the month, we will be sending home work that your child has been doing in class. In many cases, it iwll be a work in progress or journals where they have showed their thinking. The purpose of this is to give you a chance to see what they have been doing in school as well as to give you an opportunity to have a conversation with them about their thinking and learning. To that end, we have some suggestions for you to follow.
Sit with your child and ask them to show you their work.
Ask them what they learned where you think appropriate. Allow them to do most of the talking.
Remember, these are works in progress so please do not focus on the mistakes.
Here are some things you can say:
Tell me about this.
What did you learn when you worked on this?
What connections did you make?
Please sign each journal that your child brings home so we know you reviewed it with them. Then be sure to send back the work with your child on Monday.
Thank you for the opportunity to check out what wonderful learning is going on in the classroom!
